Is your WiFi slow and unstable? Why not upgrade your Network Connectivity with WiFi 6.

Connectivity through Ubiquiti access points.

What is WiFi 6?

WiFi 6 (802.11ax) is the latest WiFi standard and is the improved WiFi standard over its predecessor, WiFi 5 (802.11ac). WiFi 6 allows faster speeds and increased stability / range. It is also much more capable of handling multiple devices than previous WiFi standards.

The benefits of WiFi 6 over WiFi 5:

WiFi 6 offers increased range over WiFi 5. This means that it reduces the need for access points to connect effectively. An access point such as the Ubiquiti UniFi U6-Pro could make this connection even stronger, which could be especially beneficial for businesses.

WiFi 6 allows multiple devices to access the network simultaneously using OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) whereas WiFi 5 only allows 1 device to access the network at a time using OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing). This means that connecting to the network is much easier in crowded areas with WiFi 6.

WiFi 6 can improve device battery life by using TWT (Target Wake Time). It does this by allowing devices to choose when to connect to the network. This means that battery life is not wasted by searching for the network when it isn’t necessary.

WiFi 6 has a maximum theoretical data rate of 9.6 Gbps whereas WiFi 5 has a maximum theoretical data rate of 3.5 Gbps meaning WiFi 6 allows faster connection.

Whilst WiFi 6 has many advantages over WiFi 5, one downside is that older devices may not be able to harness the full power of WiFi 6. This means that if your premises has mostly older technology, WiFi 5 may be the best option for you, however by purchasing WiFi 6 routers or APs, you are also future proofing yourself for the inevitable purchases of newer, WiFi 6-enabled devices over the next year or two.

What is WiFi 6E?

You may have heard about WiFi 6E recently. The difference between WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E is that whilst WiFi 6 only operates on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, WiFi 6E also operates on the 6GHz band. The 6GHz band opens up around 4x as much bandwidth as the other bands allowing routers to broadcast WiFi signals easier and therefore reducing signal interference. WiFi 6E supported routers and access points are becoming more widely available now, however the number of devices that are capable of utilising the 6GHz band are still limited.
Ubiquiti have released the UniFi U6-Enterprise which is a powerful, ceiling-mounted WiFi 6E access point, designed for seamless multi-band coverage in high-density networks.

Luckily for us, WiFi 6 routers, access points and compatible devices are now widely available. Check out some of 4Gon’s top Ubiquiti WiFi 6 enabled access points:
